Vintage Christmas Postcards

Christmas postcards is one of the largest segments of postcard collecting.  From the turn of the century to the 1960's postcards were traded and collected.

Now that the holidays are around the corner,  It's my favorite time of year to get these out and use them in holiday decorating!  Framed they are gorgeous and make a statement.  If you don't have any, don't worry.  Hit your next vintage flea market and I bet you'll come out with a handful and at a great price!

The art and graphics on postcards of days gone by is stunning.  Foil, glitter, raised images.  Some of the best artist of the time worked on vintage postcards.  Postcards made in Germany seem to be among the highest collected.   Their workmanship was superb.

Condition is everything with vintage Christmas postcards.  I think it's OK if they've been written on or sent.  Rips, tears, warping or water damage is a good reason to not buy.  Buy the best you can find.  Prices on vintage holiday postcards can range from $1 to $100 dollars and in rare cases more.   Decide what you like and start collecting.  You can pick by era or subject, like all Santa, or all reindeer.  Even narrowing it down that far gives you loads of postcards to choose from.

It's the thrill of the hunt for me. The amazement that something so fragile like paper could last so long and still be completely beautiful and gorgeous.

Make sure you keep them safe the rest of the year.   I found a good starter page that will give you some info on where to keep them safe!
