Growing up with Antiques
I grew up with antiques, as both my mother and grandmother were collectors. The first thing I remember buying with my own money was a lovely antique velvet piano scarf when I was 11. It had beautiful muted colors and lovely silk fringe, perfect for my bohemian decorating style in my bedroom!
My mother collected primitives, while my grandmother collected pretty dishes and silverware; she tended to be drawn to Victorian antiques. I think my tastes have always fallen somewhere in between, as I love kitchen collectibles and scales, as well as small men’s shoes, clocks, small books and sepia toned photos. I still have that bohemian decorating style!
I started selling on Etsy in 2009. When my mother passed away in 2011, I was left with all the things she loved. Selling was a way to find others who would appreciate the primitive pieces that she loved. (I had grown up with these pieces and had a house full of my own goodies, but I wanted her pieces to be loved.)
I love to unite people with a special piece of vintage or an antique. Preserving history and finding a caretaker for something unique to me is rewarding. It gives me a warm feeling to pass on something wonderful to the next person who will treasure the piece.
I am excited to be showing at Vintage Garage and hope to make it a regular part of my world.
