Turn of the Century Christmas Postcards
I love collecting paper and vintage holiday postcards and greeting cards are a favorite area of collecting. This is a group of early 1900's Christmas postcards. The designs are quite serious and interesting. Check out the gallery below and I will add more.
Companies making amazing postcards that still fetch good prices today are names like Wensch, Ellen Clapsaddle, Raphael Tuck and Sons, Marcus Ward and Co. and many more. Holiday greeting cards didn't take off in the US until the early 1900's. Postcards were popular for the holidays until about 1915. To learn more about the origins click here.
As far as collecting, Christmas post cards offer great opportunities for both new and experienced collectors. There are plenty of categories like cards made in Germany or signed by a particular artist, or just vintage Santa. There's also styles and eras to go after.
Fun fact, the Christmas stamp was introduced by the US Postal Service in 1962. Most postcards were .01 or .02.
We hope you have the best of holidays and a safe New Year! See you March 2/3 for CVCJ!
