Christmas Vintage

Vintage Christmas decorations...

are a staple for our holiday As we prepare for the Sands (Griswold) family Christmas. I want to share some of our very favorite Christmas vintage.   We collect Vintage Christmas all year round.  Special pieces stay in the collection. Many pieces came from Vintage Garage Chicago and I'm excited about the Vintage Garage Holiday Market December 1.  It's the first one we've had in over 2 years and they are legendary.

It's only 1 day AND it's a Saturday.  I know we are usually a Sunday Market but this time it will be a Saturday. Click on the highlighted link above for more deets.

Back to our vintage Christmas

We usually spend our holidays at our home in the northern burbs.  We open gifts, watch movies, eat a lot of cookies and eat Chinese food on Christmas day.  It's cozy and low stress and has a retro flair.

Our Christmas vintage collection grows each year and it shifts and changes s into different categories like Santa, elves, angels etc.  Enjoy some bits of our collections straight from the living room!

It's the perfect time to say how grateful we are for our lives here, and all of our family and the people around us.

Vintage Christmas Tree

The tree! This isn't a "real" Christmas tree,  in fact, it's new.  The decorations are all vintage.  Our favorite bulbs we found by a now defunct company called The Christmas Gallery so we are always on the look out.  They have a real vintage retro 1960's Christmas look. Check out some of the close ups below.  I couldn't resist these clip on vintage mushroom ornaments at a local church sale.  They are so unique.  Lastly some sputnik starburst 1960's ornaments.

I shake it up each year. I will use different ornaments or color schemes.  No retro Christmas tree would be complete without a few of our own childhood ornaments.  It's not something you think  as a kid, I need to keep this ornament to show my kids one day.  Later on, you might find yourself on the hunt for pieces you remember.

My kids need their own nostalgic ornaments too!  I'll be on the hunt this year.

Since we moved to Chicago, I am always on the hunt for vintage Christmas gift boxes from Marshall Fields, Carson Pirie Scott and any other with great graphics.  I always think about what was in the box originally.  Was she pleased? It was definitely a fabulous box and I hope the gift was thrilling.  I could see the box being ALMOST as important as what came inside.  See below for a better shot.

Vintage Christmas

Mid century Christmas tree and ornaments as well as early Christmas bulbs and glass beaded garland.  Bottle brush trees all over! The carved wood music box is a favorite, it has the sweetest details!

Various awesome sets here.  Holt Howard Santa salt and pepper set.  3 small pinecone clowns, Lefton Santa and Mrs. Claus shakers. Elves shakers.  In the background you'll see a Lefton sled.  One of my favorite holiday finds from Shytown Girl Vintage at Vintage Garage Chicago are the cool Santa head salt and peppers.  The hand painted details on the faces of these are just great.

Vintage glitter stars on the windows are old store window displays.
