Heidi Calaway Style Storyteller

Fashion as Art

We are excited to have vendors from Indiana and Wisconsin, as well as Illinois, at the Vintage Garage this Sunday. Hailing from Milwaukee, meet Heidi Calaway, Style Storyteller.

“Many people have asked why I call myself a style storyteller," Calaway told us. "My answer is this: As an art director as well as stylist, I like to set the stage to tell a story. Not only with the wardrobe and proper model to fit that character, but the location, scene and props. I think by telling a story with more than just the fashion that the model is wearing makes much more interesting shot. It is my art.”

Heidi’s interest in fashion began with helping style friends and family in high school.  After high school, Heidi earned a degree in Fashion Merchandising and worked in retail where she routinely helped customers style their outfits. After earning her Bachelors in Business Administration, she gained more experience working in the entertainment industry by styling wardrobe for artists in the music industry as part of her “jack of all trades” responsibilities. She then opened a brick and mortar store. One of her special services was again helping clients with their wardrobes.

She eventually closed the store and now focuses on professional styling, as well as selling vintage fashion online. Her online store, Pippy, is where she sells vintage clothing, reproduction clothing, accessories, furnishings, art and her handcrafted jewelry.

“I love Midcentury and Art Deco," Calaway said. "Many times when styling for editorial looks, I end up borrowing from my vintage collections. I love how unique it is to modern day fashions.”

Heidi also helps style and art direct for film, commercials, editorial photo shoots, catalog, video and model portfolios. Get a sense for Heidi Calaway, style storyteller, by visiting her website Mod Fashion Style.
