MCM Homes
Midcentury Modern homes are popular among vintage lovers. This one is near Michigan City, Indiana in Pottawattomie Park and belongs to a Vintage Garage vendor. The house is 3 blocks from the Chicago South Shore commuter train, perfect if you work in the city like the owner did. She is hoping a Mid Century Modern lover will see it and love it. What better group than us to show it off to? What I personally love about this house is the solid brick, the color and the clean lines. This house was built in the 1950's and was, and still is, the American dream. The front porch is gorgeous and inviting. The yard has been well manicured with classic shrubs and is ready for the right new owner to settle in. I asked Anne a little more about her house and the house has a great story: "The house has an interesting history," says Ann Dahm, current owner. "It was designed by the son-in-law of the original owner. The architect had just graduated from IIT in Chicago where he had come from the East Coast to study with Mies van der Rohe. A special feature of its modern design is that the interior windows and doors have "bull nose" framing rather than the traditional wood moulding. The big windows in the living room and the layout are typical of Midcentury modern homes of the era. Nine foot ceilings add to the spacious feel." The inside has been updated but retro details were preserved and taken into consideration during the upgrade. The back porch is ready for the Fourth of July! If you are looking for the perfect Midcentury home, one that is only 3 blocks away from the Chicago South Shore commuter train, this is one is ready for a new generation of vintage loving, "Mad Men" watching home owners!
